North Korea’s Kim makes rare visit to father’s tomb

State media reported on Monday ( Feb. 17 ) that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un paid his respects at a family graveyard to honor his late father and former leader Kim Jong Il.

Kim Jong Il’s holiday, which falls on Feb 16, is widely celebrated as a major vacation in North Korea, called the Day of the Shining Star.

The younger Kim visited the Kumsusan Palace of Sun in the investment Pyongyang, where his father and grandfather’s systems are housed, for the first time in four years, for the celebration.

Accompanied by Kim Yo Jong, his girl and a senior ruling Workers ‘ Party standard, among other advisers, Kim Jong Un paid tribute “in the kindest reverence”, KCNA said.

He “fell compelled to give himself to the spiritual struggle for the safety of the people, the country’s prosperity, and the advertising of their well-being,” the statement read.

Kim dynasty, which has ruled North Korea since it first emerged after World War Two, has sought to improve their hold on power by creating cults of character around them, even though Kim Jong Un has shown signs of exceedingly trying to stand up for his own against his predecessors.
