Hwang Ui-jo: S Korea striker get suspended jail term for filming secret sex videos

Hwang Ui-jo, a North Korean soccer player, was given a one-year suspended jail term for allegedly filming his physical encounters with a woman, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The 32-year-old, a former Nottingham Forest striker, now plays for the Turkish club Alanyaspor. He also plays for the South Korea national team but was suspended in 2023 amid the allegations.

The Seoul court said that “given the seriousness of the socially harmful effects of illegal filming, it is necessary to punish]Hwang ] strictly”.

Nevertheless, it was noted that Hwang had shown regret, and that a third party had posted the videos on social media.

Hwang had said he was “deeply guilty” for causing “disappointment” during his first court appearance past December.

The video came to light after Hwang’s sister-in-law shared them on social media next June, in an attempt to slander him.

After Hwang sued her, she received a three-year prison sentence for the coercion.

However, the charges against him continued because lawyers claimed that he had filmed physical contacts with two ladies without their consent on four times in 2022.

He had immediately claimed sincerity, but pleaded guilty to illegitimate shooting costs last October.

He was found guilty of the crimes against one girl but found not guilty of those crimes against the other.

South Korea’s concern with hidden cameras used to secretly record women and their sexual encounters is a recurring one.

Over the past ten years, thousands of women have been detained for documenting ghoulish images and videos, causing fear and anger in their own communities.
