A man in Singapore made racist remarks and then posted video clips of himself arguing with the police officers who were called on him on TikTok. He was given a 10-day jail term and a fine of S$ 4, 000 ( US$$ 2, 900 ) on Thursday ( Feb 13 ).  ,
The video, which were uploaded on Jan 2, 2023, went popular with one of the movie clips garnering more than 6 million views.
Jonathan Ong Jun Jie, now 31, fought the three charges, winning the conviction for attempting to harasse him by posting six films of his relationships with the commander on TikTok.  ,
Ong was given two other charges related to missing two meetings with the authorities when he was sentenced.  ,
Ong, a former Cheers staff, was manning the teller on Jan 1, 2023 when the prey, Mr Namasivayam Jayapal, entered the store at Lau Pa Sat along Raffles Quay at about 8pm to get beer, according to Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Da Zhuan.  ,
Mr Namasivayam brought cans of ale to the cashier, and made small talk, asking if Ong was a stranger, TODAY reported.  ,
The cost bedding stated that Ong insulted Mr. Namasivayam by claiming that he was from Bangladesh and that Bangladesh was under his foot.  ,
In reply, Mr Namasivayam cursed at Ong and called the police, Mr Lee said. For his actions, the original received a notice of caution.  ,
According to TODAY, Staff Sergeant Mohammad Firdaus Hassan and two other officers responded to the call at the Cheers store.  ,
Ong began a video recording of the group on his cellular phone as Ssgt Firdaus entered the convenience store, according to Mr. Lee at the time.  ,
Ssgt Firdaus inquired about his detail before interviewing Ong, but he continued, the latter declined to provide them.  ,
The trial next cautioned Ong that there might be consequences for disclosing his details and keeping a picture of the police in place while investigations are being pending.  ,
Ong ignored these warnings and eventually posted his movie to six different TikTok content, two of which had the words “SPF thug-like behavior” and” Cop lying through his teeth.”
According to Now, Mr. Lee claimed that Ong intended to harass him by posting the video and that these words were” evidently rude and unpleasant” toward Ssgt Firdaus.
During the cross-examination, Ong, who represented himself, asked Mr Namasivayam if he was drunken during the event, to which he replied he was not.
