The House of Representatives has received a formal demand for the incarceration of Thai Progressive Party MP Chaiyamparwaan Manpianjit, who is accused of raping a Chinese woman last month in Chiang Mai.

The federal police captain sent the email after a judge in Chiang Mai issued a subpoena for the arrest of the Bangkok MP.

Because of his MP position, the House needs a proper request letter to allow him to be charged.

The letter may be considered by congress at a meeting on Thursday next year, said Pol Sub Lt Arpath Sukhanunth, secretary-general of the House of Representatives. But, he continued, the date of the session’s plan will determine whether the subject will be discussed during the program.

The issue may be taken off the agenda if Mr. Chaiyamparwaan presents himself before the conference, according to Pol Sub Lt Arpath.

He will be on a niche goal, according to the MP’s team’s press release for the Feb. 20 meeting. When he is available, a common statement in his name will be released, they said.

According to reports, Mr. Chaiyamparwaan is now in Bangkok and intends to turn himself in before the meeting on February 20. His legal group maintains that the sex was lawful and refutes the assault accusations.

Following a conclusion in an internal investigation that revealed his sexual harassment of three aides, Mr. Chaiyamparwaan was expelled from the Move Forward Party in 2023.

It is not known whether politicians plan an honest investigation into Mr Chaiyamparwaan’s activities. An ethics commission has just recently been established, and it’s unclear whether any members will raise the issue or file a problem, according to Poli Sub Lt Arpath.
