According to the Ministry of Defense, the number of generals in the country’s military forces is “highly private” details that cannot be made public due to the danger that it would pose to national security.
The House Committee on Military Affairs requested information on the armed forces’ slimming programs and the number of commanders across various departments in a letter sent by the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense on Monday.
According to the email, the number of military personnel is classified as “highly private” due to national security concerns.
It warned that state interests may be seriously harmed by releasing this information.
The military forces are working to reduce the number of generals serving as particular experts, researchers, and functional officers, according to the letter, which is expected to be finished by 2030.
Thus far, 330 jobs have been cut, with an extra 70 decreases planned between 2025 and 2028.
Jirat Thongsuwan, a People’s Party MP for Chachoengsao, criticised the agency’s answer.
Since when is the amount of generals in the military forces considered to be highly secretive? Who are they attempting to keep this solution from? he asked before volunteering an response:” Citizens”.
” ]Letting the public ] know how many generals the country has would not threaten national security, but rather the security of certain military officials”, he claimed.
According to assistant government official Karom Phonphonklang, the government has approved in theory a draft imperial decree regarding financial support for the government’s early retirement program.
The draft’s goals are to reduce the number of generals in those three categories by 50 % by 2028 and reduce the armed forces by 5 % by 2027.
