Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has urged people in Myanmar to support efforts to stop call-center scams along the frontier, promising that Thailand will begin the supply of power and computer to the neighboring nation after legal sites are eradicated from the affected regions.
According to Thaksin, Myanmar has experienced racial tensions and military issue, and some rebel groups receive funding from call-centre gangs and drug trafficking sites.
According to Thaksin,” The problem did not stop until its main reason is addressed,” referring to call-centre fraud gangs operating in Myanmar close to the Thai border.
” Communities]in Myanmar ] must realise they should no longer support those call-centre scam gangs.
We will begin the supply of electricity and computer signals if the scammers are expelled from the country, said Thaksin, who is commonly believed to be the de facto leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party led by his daughter, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
In response to Myanmar’s plan to purchase electricity from Laos following the energy reduces from Thailand, Thaksin stated that energy supplies to Myanmar were suspended to stop the country from producing electricity there.
He added that he knew a significant call center fraud crew was also operating from a tower on the 25th ground in Poipet city, which borders Sa Kaeo state.
” We have to find assistance from Cambodia, “he said.
” We know who is the owner of the tower. He even holds Thai citizenship. When the day comes, his Thai nationality may be revoked,” Thaksin said, without elaborating.
On Wednesday, Thailand cut light, online service and fuel supplies to five border regions in Myanmar where suspected fraud facilities are located.
In reply, Myanmar is then seeking to purchase electricity from Laos.
The decision came after a National Security Council ( NSC ) meeting last Tuesday, at which the council determined that the measure was necessary given the widespread impact of these criminal activities, which affect not only Thailand but also other countries.
Fraud centers have been labeled as a “national security issue” by the government.
These procedures, which have proliferated along the Myanmar-Thailand borders, are run by criminal groups and staffed by recruited foreign staff who are coerced into defrauding their colleagues.
Ms Paetongtarn, however, said on Sunday the government is presently assessing the affect of the suspension of light materials to Myanmar.
She claimed that the action is intended to crippled call centers for fraud working in the neighboring nation.
She added that the government’s top goal is to protect the interests of Thailand and Thai people while ignoring protests by citizens who have been affected by the power reduces in Myanmar.
On Saturday, more than 100 protesters, mostly from Myawaddy in Kayin State, assembled in front of Myawaddy Hospital before marching towards the first and subsequent Thai-Myanmar Friendship roads, aiming to destroy business.
After a while, they turned around. No murder was reported.
