The National Security Council has called for a meet today with some sides involved in the president’s bid to minimize electricity supplies to areas in neighbouring Myanmar believed to be linked to improper activities, Chatchai Bangchuad, secretary-general of the NSC, said yesterday.
According to him, the gathering would discuss data collected on illegal activities, including call center schemes, in order to determine which border places may experience a power cut-off. The armed forces, the Ministry of Interior, the minister of foreign affairs, and the Provincial Electricity Authority ( PEA ) are the key participants in the meeting.
Anutin Charnvirakul, the interior minister, wrote a letter to the NSC last week asking for information on illegal activity in five of the areas where Seed provides power. The government also needs more information from various organizations concerned, he said, despite having the authority to stop the supply of power to these places.
According to some, the government is taking too long to put an end to frightening businesses across the borders due to the lengthy process of determining which areas are being cut off from power supplies. Some people speculate about the coalition’s disagreements over the issue.
In another growth, a Hong Kong regional has been rescued from a call center fraud group operating in Myanmar’s Myawaddy, according to a cause. On January 31, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board asked the Royal Thai Army to assist in the recovery and relocating of 12 Hong Kong residents who no longer wanted to join the group. Their location is thought to be a region run by the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army ( DKBA ).
The military assisted DKBA in the rescue operation by working with the Thai martial attaché in Rangoon, and the military did it in collaboration. Yi Chui Suet, 31, one of the survivors, was rescued and taken up to Thailand. He is currently awaiting relocation to Hong Kong.
A Chinese regional who is suspected of being connected to at least two call center fraud gangs in Cambodia was detained yesterday at a condominium in the Pracha Uthit district of Bangkok.
Chun Shen Liao, 37, was detained in Thailand because of the use of SIM cards to make phone calls to patients. Four offenders in the SIM box function were detained on Friday and allegedly claimed to have been hired by Mr. Chun. According to the officers, Mr. Chun has a lengthy criminal history and is wanted by Chinese authorities in numerous scams and con artist situations.
