Thousands of protesters call for Philippine VP Duterte impeachment

On Friday ( Jan 31 ), thousands of protesters urged the Philippine House of Representatives to remove Vice President Sara Duterte from the city of Manila.

Politicians have yet to file an prosecution complaint just weeks before Congress adjourns the week before the May midterm primaries, but Duterte is facing three indictment issues over alleged misconduct and abuse of millions of dollars in state funds.

The 46-year-old evil president, who is estranged from President Ferdinand Marcos but remains his legal son in case he is unable to perform his duties, has denied the allegations.

Marcos himself has urged Congress never to do Duterte’s prosecution, calling it a” wind in a cup” that may distract the government from its primary tasks.

Protesters chanted” Impeach!” while generally wearing white shirts and held placards requesting Duterte’s removal. Impeach Sara nowadays”! as they gathered beside Manila’s busiest street.

Around 4, 000 people took part in the morning protest, police said, with government deploying 7, 400 mob police to keep the peace.

A massive rally held on January 13 by a traditional sect that opposes Duterte’s senate dwarfed those numbers.

House of Representatives part Percival Cendana, who backs one of the senate problems, joined Friday’s rally and urged his associates to move quickly.

Every day of inaction” endorses the violence, the abuse of power and the abuse that Duterte is doing to our government’s rulers”, he told investigators.

An official who has been impeached can be removed from office by a two-thirds voting in the Senate, and an charged official can only be impeached if it is supported by a third of the House of Representatives users.

” The Filipino persons are here, ready to stand for truth and justice. This hardly refuse them”, Cendana said.
