Self-driving public buses to be deployed on service 191 and 400 as part of LTA trial

PROPOSALS

On Monday, the power issued a demand for proposals.

The selected group will collaborate with SBS Transit, which is now the operator of Services 400 and 191, to create functional themes and ideas.

LTA intends to conduct this pilot to examine the technical viability of autonomous vehicle ( AV ) technology for public bus services and gain knowledge about how to operate autonomous buses at both the service and fleet levels, according to the organization.

The winning tenderer will operate for at least six months to demonstrate the self-driving and distant operations capabilities of the automatic buses, and a distant safety operator will then assume the supervisory position.

LTA said the proposals may include vehicle models, fleet management and distant function systems, as well as electric charging facilities.

Additionally, they should have the necessary hardware and software for AV activities as well as the necessary maintenance and support services.

According to the expert, LTA will determine the validity of the proposals based on the maturity of the AV technology, the AV developer’s track record in nearby and/or outside deployments, and the ability to meet the operational requirements of people bus services.

” The completeness of the proposed supporting equipment, such as AV fleet management and charging systems, will also be taken into account.”

By the end of the second third of 2025, the demand for ideas will be complete, and the deal is anticipated to be awarded by the end of the year.
