A Russian person has been detained and charged after allegedly throwing his 13-year-old boy into the water off Phangna, killing the boy from serious injuries sustained by a shaft.
The incident took place near Koh Rae in the Khura Buri district near Koh Rae while tourists were present, and boat employees reported it to the police on Wednesday at around 4pm.
The boat was taking tourists from Mu Ko Surin to the Khura Buri pier, which is located about 200 meters from the mainland, again.
The half-Thai, half-Russian child, Lucas Bugorskiy, suffered critical injury. He eventually passed away in Kuraburi Chaipat Hospital as a result of his wounds.
The boy’s parents, Artem Bugorskiy, was detained by the ship staff before being taken in for questioning by officers.
According to the boat captain, there were 33 visitors on board – 17 Thais and 16 international nationals– and five staff members. Around 3o’clock, the boat left Mu Ko Surin.
When the ship approached Mu Ko Ra–Ko Phra Thong, Mr Bugorskiy, 45, was seen leaving his couch, grabbing his brother and throwing him into the waters before jumping in before. The parents resisted assistance while floating in the ocean despite all efforts to support.
A staff member retrieved the child after the commander maneuvered the boat and suffered severe physical and head injuries from the propeller.
The Russian person has been charged with intentional murder by authorities. He denied the charge.
