Authorities warn of bird flu risks

Health specialists have cautioned people to take precautions when visiting livestock farms and to avoid drinking organic milk to stop them from contracting the H5N1 avian flu, which is currently found in mammals.

According to Dr. Jurai Wongsawat, a spokesperson for the Department of Disease Control, there have been cases of bird flu in many countries around the world in primates like dairy cattle, pigs, and yet tigers.

This occurs because the disease has evolved and may infect mammals, she said.

She also cautioned consumers to choose pasteurized materials rather than raw milk. There have been instances of cheese farmers getting bird flu in the United States. Thus, people should not consume fresh milk”, Dr Jurai said.

She added that because bird flu in the neighboring nation is severe and has a mortality rate as high as 50 %, health officials were on standby to combat the disease along the border with Cambodia.

The most recent people mortality in Cambodia, in September, was a 15-year-old woman who had handled tired animals in her town.
