MANILA : An earthquake of magnitude 5. 9 struck off the central Philippines on Thursday ( Jan 23 ), the country’s seismology agency said.
The offshore collapse had a degree of 10km and was off the town of San Francisco in Leyte state, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ( PHIVOLCS) said in a report.
The company warned of destruction and waves from the deep tremor.
Police big Barnie Catig, the city’s authorities chief, said the tremor was short but powerful.
” It was solid, some of the photo frames in our shelves fell out,” Catig said by telephone.
Catig said there were no immediate reports of injury from the disaster.
Disasters are common in the Philippines, which is located in the Pacific Ocean’s” Ring of Fire”, where volcanic action and disasters often occur.
