Koreans caught running gambling websites in Thailand

Two South Koreans have been arrested by police for reportedly operating online gaming sites from a home in Udon Thani state.

Immigration Bureau key Pol Lt Gen Panumart Boonyalak on Wednesday led a combined crew of emigration and regional police to search a rented  home in tambon Ban Lueam of Muang area.

They were acting on knowledge that foreigners were engaged in illegal actions in the house.

They found two South Koreans managing virtual gaming activities and client systems.

The defendants were taken into custody for questioning. Government seized computers and other tools used for online wagering on the energetic websites Vinus Gaming Services and 100d-1, both main North Korean gaming websites with users worldwide.

They seized names of casinos and financial information involving multiple assets from around the world.

Pol Maj Gen Warissiri Leelasiri, acting chief of Immigration Division 4, said that during questioning the two offenders admitted to being an IT staff for the illegitimate websites. They also handled procedures for another gaming sites, supported players making financial dealings and marketed the websites to gamblers in South Korea, Thailand and other countries. Most of their customers were South Koreans.

The sites had a regular turnover of 4 billion fought, around 100 million rmb, Pol Maj Gen Warissiri said. The two offenders had entered Thailand as travellers, therefore used Udon Thani as their foundation. They admitted to receiving regular incomes of 80,000–100,000 ringgit each.

They face claims of working without a sanction as foreign nationals.

All seized goods and the defendants were being handed over to Muang Udon Thani authorities for legal proceedings. Officers were coordinating with the North Korean ambassador.

He said the offenders ‘ brands were being withheld at their request.
