SINGAPORE: The Singapore Red Cross is committing S$ 300,000 ( US$ 219,790 ) worth of relief supplies to Gaza to support the needs of affected communities.
The latest batch of humanitarian aid comes a day after the Israel-Hamas ceasefire which took effect on Sunday ( Jan 19 ).
Food items, health products and health products will be included in this round, said the Singapore Red Cross in a press release on Monday.
” Singapore Red Cross is pleased that the peace is now in place and this presents a vital chance to scale up on philanthropic support to address the immediate needs of residents affected by the crisis,” said the charitable organisation’s secretary general and CEO, Mr Benjamin Williams.
” Our emphasis remains on providing timely, life-saving support – ensuring that those in need of immediate medical care, emotional support, and important relief may receive the help they need. “
The Singapore Red Cross added it has disbursed close to S$ 1 million worth of relief aid through the Egyptian Red Crescent Society ( ERCS).
This includes the implementation of an operations consultant and an eight-person team to assist the ERCS with pleasure operations in 2024, it said.
The Singapore Red Cross will continue to work with its companions to observe the Gaza position and adjust its answer to meet the needs of the damaged areas.
Money raised from the people will directly help the uprooted Palestinian communities in Gaza, the charitable organisation added.
The Singapore Red Cross said it will work with its Red Cross Red Crescent action partners, including ERCS, to ensure that the help is being distributed to those in need.
It has been working together with ECRS to collect and provide necessary reduction materials via the property borders in Rafah since the start of the conflict on Oct 7, 2023.
The Singapore Red Cross added that it is also ready to deploy an businesses consultant to work with its surface partners to arrange the latest round of humanitarian assistance.
During the peace, ERCS may be working carefully with state government to deepen support distribution into Gaza.
ERCS also shared that help stockpiled near the Rafah crossing is ready for immediate release once the borders resume, with plans for 600 truckloads of support and energy to get delivered regularly during the first stage of the ceasefire.
