South Korea investigators file request to extend President Yoon’s detention

SUPPORT FOR Group UP RULING

Most South Koreans support his impeachment, according to opinion surveys, but Yoon’s legal troubles and rebellion over his imprisonment seem to have sparked some of his followers.

In a Gallup Korea poll released on Friday, Yoon’s ruling People Power Party ( PPP ) received 39 %, up from 34 % a week earlier, and it overcame its main opposition Democratic Party’s 36 % for the first time since August.

According to Gallup Korea, Yoon and his party’s frequent messaging to supporters appeared to have had an influence as political unrest grew as a result of his arrest.

His supporters gathered outside the prison on Friday to applaud the rise in PPP’s endorsement score.

” People are now waking up to the fact that our country is at risk”, said Noh Eun-sook, 57, who was wearing a woolly hat and chanting for Yoon’s release.

Yoon was arrested after a weeks-long conflict when more than 3, 000 police officials swooped on his house. A earlier attempt to arrest him on Jan 3 failed after Yoon’s private security blocked authorities.

Kim Sung-hoon, acting commander of the Presidential Security Service, was arrested on Friday for thwarting authorities ‘ first attempt, Yonhap said.

Kim, who spoke to reporters, claimed that he was carrying out his “legitimate safety duties” and that Yoon had ordered soldiers to employ weapons against those attempting to arrest him.

While Yoon’s declaration of martial law has received criticism from a important ally, Jake Sullivan, a top aide to the United States, warned last week that there is a chance that a nuclear-armed North Korea might try to exploit South Korea’s social position.

Yoon’s imprisonment was reported in position advertising on Friday, two days after the incident, though North Korea has largely avoided making public opinion about the situation in Seoul.

According to international media, this was South Korea’s first official arrest, according to the Rodong Sinmun newspaper.

Rodong Sinmun claimed that Yoon Suk Yeol is not adhering to constitutional rules at the price of the national interest.
