Chinese tourist killed in jet ski collision in Thailand

BEIJING: One Chinese tourist was killed and another injured after their jet skis collided off Thailand’s Phuket island on Tuesday ( Jan 14), Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing China’s embassy in Thailand.

The cause of the incident was being investigated, CCTV said.

In only two weeks, there have been two incidents involving Chinese tourists close to Phuket.

Thailand is a well-liked travel destination for Taiwanese tourists who are traveling there for the upcoming Lunar New Year’s holiday.

On Monday, a boat carrying 33 Foreign and 5 staff members capsized off the coast of Koh Racha area north of Phuket, CCTV reported.

All those on table were rescued with no deaths, the statement said.

Next year, Chinese visitors accounted for the largest party of tourists to Thailand, with 6.7 million trips to the East Asian region.
