Anwar claimed that the document was sent to the attorney-general and not to him or any other Pardons Board official, according to Bernama’s report from Saturday ( Jan 11 ).
The attorney-general next forwarded the report to the castle during a change of king, because the king is in charge of the Pardons Board. We did not hide anything”, Anwar said.
The Malaysian government’s rules government reported on Friday that it had received no official instructions or instructions from the imperial palace regarding the matter and had no access to any records that would allow Najib to be placed under house arrest. Additionally, the house and communications ministers have claimed they were unaware that such a record existed.
Najib was found guilty in 2020 of a criminal breach of trust and abuse of power for receiving funds that 1Malaysia Development Berhad ( 1MDB) had illegally swindled. He is accused of corruption in several other 1MDB-linked situations and denies any wrongdoing.
On January 6, the Court of Appeal overturned Najib’s legal request to have access to the report, which he claims may allow him to provide the rest of his sentence at home. The situation may return to court so that a different prosecutor can hear it.
