Chinese rob compatriots of B13m in crypto exchange fraud in Bangkok

Three Taiwanese people complained to Bangkok authorities on Thursday night that they had lost 13 million baht worth of cash while swapping it for crypto.

At 3.30pm, a circumstance occurred at a home in the Huai Khwang district’s Pracharat Bampen 12 Road.

A Chinese man, identified as Huang Guang, complained that a group of three Chinese colleagues snatched his case containing 5 million ringgit in dollars and fled the scene in a Toyota Alphard van while he was exchangeing the money for cryptocurrency, according to Pol Col Prasopchok Iampinit, the police station’s key. He unsuccessfully attempted to follow the crew on a bike taxi.

Zhenkun Cai, who resided in a home on Yenjit Road in the Sathon city, was the owner of the white Toyota Alphard van, according to authorities.

Authorities searched the residence and discovered a case that with a bag containing 5 million ringgit in cash.

A group of four Chinese brothers exchanged 8 million baht in cash with a group of four countrymen in the Phraram 9 place about the same time.

A mediator claimed to handle the exchange for them on both sides.

The group of four claimed to have already deposited their bitcoin with the intermediary before snatching the money. According to Pol Col Prasopchok, the other side informed Huai Khwang police that they had not received the supposedly transferred digital currency.
