According to Deputy Prime Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, the state is looking into energy costs in order to determine how to lower prices as suggested by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
He was responding to comments made by Pheu Thai Party de facto leader Thaksin, who had previously promised to lower energy costs for residents of Chiang Rai.
The estimated family light amount from this quarter until April is 4.15 baht per system, said Mr Pichai, even the finance minister, on Wednesday.
He claimed that the government is responsible for finding ways to lower energy costs to nicely below 4 ringgit per product as part of its strategy to cover the higher living expenses of its citizens.
The current power tariff, effective until the end of April, is 4.15 baht oper kilowatt/hour (unit ).
But, Mr. Pichai claimed that the specifics of the situation have not yet been taken into account, so he was unable to reply further.
He said that is still a mystery as to whether tax procedures will be used to lower energy costs.
He claimed that the government’s assistance for lowering energy costs is not always sufficient.
There is also rumors that the Ministry of Finance may lower the price of gas in the Gulf of Thailand, which is used as electricity for power generation, but Mr. Pichai claimed the government has not yet examined the specifics of such a tax estimate.
” I can only ensure that the state has a plan to take care of the people because we have the intention to lower the price of electricity to less than 4 baht,” he said.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated on Tuesday that lowering the price to 3.70 ringgit is probable, adding that it is a federal focus in response to Thaksin’s advice regarding the lower light price.
