As part of the year-end custom among Government House writers to come up with monikers for senior government officials, the push has given Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra the name” Paetongphoey” in reference to her reliance on prepared scripts at critical times.
The name” Paetongphoey” is a mash-up between the first two vowels of the prime minister’s title, and phoey– the Thai expression for “script”.
When asked to comment on the name, Ms Paetongtarn insisted it didn’t upset her, before adding good-naturedly that” Paetongpad” would have been more accurate, as she reads the scripts off her iPad ( as her critics have noted ).
Government House correspondents even dubbed Ms Paetongtarn’s management as” the dad-backed authorities”, according to her father’s– former prime minister Thaksin– important role in her government.
However, they also viewed her remarks about her father’s southern nature, brought up when the South was hit by extreme floods last quarter, as estimate of the year.
The leading responded by saying her spouse “is a Southerner” and wouldn’t let her reject the situation’s circumstances in the midst of popular public criticism for her decision to oversee flood clean-up operations in the North rather than travel there when the floods were at their worst.
She claimed she would have preferred to conduct herself an inspection of the flooded areas, but the common characteristics and schedule of the tragedies left her with no choice but to delegate tasks to different lawmakers and members of her case.
At Government House on Monday, Ms. Paetongtarn said,” I feel like I just have to take a step back from anything that makes me feel bad,” adding that she finds it difficult to hate anyone.
When asked about her plans for the following year after receiving the hit feedback, Ms. Paetongtarn said she would concentrate on the persistent societal issues plaguing the nation and pledged to expedite the country’s economic healing.
