Philippines VP Duterte hit by third impeachment complaint

In a third attempt to remove Vice President Sara Duterte following a furious dispute with President Ferdinand Marcos, Philippine Catholic priests on Thursday ( Dec. 19 ) filed an impeachment complaint against her.

The 46-year-old ran for vice chairman on his seat after being predicted to take her parents Rodrigo Duterte in the 2022 elections. She stepped aside to support Marcos.

However, their empire has officially collapsed ahead of midterm elections in the upcoming season. She claimed in an expletive-filled press conference that she had ordered somebody to destroy Marcos if she herself had been killed last month.

She later denied making a death threat, describing her comments as an expression of” consternation” with the Marcos administration’s failures.

Independent coalitions of protesters have already submitted two impeachment complaints to parliament. The fourth was lodged on Thursday by seven Manila-based Catholic priests.

It accused her of plotting Marcos ‘ death as well as “anomalous reimbursements” of millions of dollars as vice president and when she headed the education ministry, a position she left in June.

” Impeachment is the needed, best line of defence against problem at the highest echelons of officialdom”, it said.

” She may be vice chairman a second more”.
