Former archbishop of Singapore Nicholas Chia dies at 86

SINGAPORE: &nbsp, Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Chia, the third&nbsp, leader of the Catholic Church in Singapore, died on Tuesday ( Dec 17 ) at the age of 86.

In a post on Facebook, &nbsp, Cardinal William Goh said that&nbsp, Archbishop Emeritus Chia “passed ahead happily this night at St Theresa’s Home”.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore said that the funeral arrangements and memorial services may be made when they are finished.

It had earlier on Tuesday announced on its social media channels that Archbishop Emeritus Chia was” thoroughly ill.”

Archbishop Chia led the&nbsp, Catholic Church in Singapore for nearly 12 times before being succeeded by&nbsp, Cardinal Goh on May 18, 2013.
