Three killed and dozens injured by bomb at Thai festival

At least three people have been killed and dozens more have been injured in a crowd-crushing incident at a festivity in Thailand.

The Red Cross Doi Loyfa good, which is held annually in the Umphang area in the north Tak state, was held just before midnight on Friday at the time of the invasion.

Two defendants are being held in custody, but no charges have been pressed, the Associated Press and regional media report, citing Thai officers.

At least 48 individuals have been wounded, six of whom are critically injured, authorities said.

The Umphang save group claimed in a statement that the explosive was thrown and fell to the ground near a stage where attendees were dancing.

Some of the wounded were taken to a local hospital, it added.

The rescue group shared photos of dirt strewn on the ground in a celebration area that was strung with lights.

In a blog on X, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her condolences to the families of the bombing victims and their injuries.

She claimed that she had given orders to the police and security personnel to look into the circumstances surrounding the blast and assist those who were impacted. She likewise mandated more police officers to be in charge of all celebration activities.

According to the Bangkok Post, between 8, 000 and 9, 000 persons attended the week-long event this season, and the attack took place on the seventh day of the occasion.

Umphang is the southern city in Thailand’s north Tak state, which shares a border with Myanmar to the north.
