12 beggars arrested in Bangkok,1 with B300,000 cash, B1m in bank account

During a authorities operation to clean Bangkok of orphans on Thursday evening, twelve Thai and international beggars were detained. One Thai man was discovered to have a bank account worth about one million ringgit and more than 300, 000 ringgit in money.

Following complaints that many beggars were pervasive along this path, which tarnishe the government’s tourism reputation, immigration officers, Lumpini officers, and human security and social security officials were dispatched to examine Bangkok’s financial areas on Sukhumvit Road from Asok crossing to Nana place on Thursday night.

The procedure was led by Pol Lt Col Suriya Puangsombat, assistant chief of the Immigration Bureau’s Division 1, and Thapanee Sirisomboon, chairman of the Bangkok Protection Centre for the Destitute.

During the procedure, the soldiers arrested eight Thais, two Cambodians, a Lao and a Burmese national for crying. According to the arresting team, the four international beggars were facing an additional charge of unlawful entry.

One Thai lady was discovered to have a bank account worth about one million baht and more than 300, 000 baht of money in her possession. She claimed to have collected the funds from begging.

All were handed over to authorities at Lumpini police station.
