After pornography cases were reported in motel rooms and guesthouses across the country, China’s top prosecutor has pledged to bite down on illegal recordings and the sale of invisible recording equipment.  ,
The Supreme People’s Court provided details in a statement released on Wednesday ( Dec. 11 ) regarding four voyeurism cases, two of which occurred in hotels and guesthouses.
” In recent years, there have been instances of pornography from time to time, causing widespread problem in society”, the prosecutor said.  ,
Hidden devices were installed in a number of hotels and guesthouses between April 2021 and January 2022 to record customers engaging in sexual behavior in a situation involving five suspects.
The footage was sold through instant messaging apps and perpetrators made a” total profit” of more than 290, 000 yuan ( US$ 39, 930 ), the court said.  ,
One of the offenders, named Shi, was primarily in charge of installing the concealed cameras on the properties. Four individuals, who had bank accounts to collect money from online movie sales, assisted him.  ,
Shi even processed and sold the film, the prosecutor said.  ,
The Wuxing District Women’s Court in Huzhou, a town in eastern Zhejiang province, heard the case second. The suspects ‘ use of hidden cameras to secretly record sexual activity and then sell the images for profit, according to the prosecution,” constituted the violence of making and selling obscene materials for income.”  ,
Shi was the “principal offender” and “played a significant position,” according to the prosecution, while the other defendants were compliciters and deserve sentences that were less harsh or less severe.  ,
After being detained and “voluntarily pleaded guilty,” the court sentenced the five men to fixed jail sentences of up to 10 times and fines ranging from 10,000 to 300,000 yuan.
