Malaysia ex-PM Mahathir denies treachery allegations over Pedra Branca decision

Mahathir Mohamad, the former prime minister of Malaysia, denied the allegations that he betrayed the nation on Tuesday following a royal investigation that ordered a criminal investigation against him over the government’s decision to drop statements on two contentious island.

A royal commission of inquiry (RCI) recommended that 99-year-old Mahathir be subject to inspection for the decision to withdraw Malaysia’s request to reject a World Court decision regarding the independence of the Pedra Branca archipelago between Malaysia and Singapore in a statement released last year.

According to the RCI statement, Malaysia had also requested explanation from the court regarding the status of another denied atoll.

Both software, made in 2017, were withdrawn after the vote of a coalition led by Mahathir the next time.

Mahathir told reporters on Tuesday that the then-Cabinet had made the decision to cut the allegations on the tips of legal professionals.

He questioned why those federal officials weren’t summoned to the examination or to experience comparable inquiries.

” All these people were in the Cabinet conference, if they have something to talk or subject to the decision… they could have spoken against it, but none of them said anything”, he said.
