Child of a retired police officer who was beaten after being mistaken for a car-flying drivers.
In a physical assault case involving seven traffic police officers and the father of a retired policeman in Bangkok on Wednesday night, the Metropolitan Police Bureau ( MPB) has vowed that justice will prevail.
According to deputy director Noppasin Poonsawat, the bureau did do a good and thorough analysis into the seven officers who are accused of assaulting 33-year-old Thananop Koedsri.
At around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, the soldiers violently subdued Mr. Thananop because they believed he had escaped an drinking station five minutes prior.
The officers chased him along Prasert Manukit Road before demanding that he move around and leave the vehicle while they were traveling in police vehicles and motorcycles.
Mr Thananop refused. The officers therefore used force to remove him before handcuffing him.
His head and eyes were apparently hurt by the use of force. He was taken to Vibhavadi Hospital.
A administrative committee, according to Pol Maj Gen Noppasin, discovered proof that the seven officials had assaulted.
They also confessed, he said, and may first experience a physical abuse cost.
A further research into the affair, he added, could lead to additional fees, including those relating to an investigation into a Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act violation.
He claimed that Mr. Thananop’s car resembled a vehicle driven by an intoxicated pilot who had fled a convoy five minutes before.
Police Maj Gen Noppasin claimed that the affair was the result of an error in the police.
Mr Thananop’s parents, Pol Lt Col Thanachai Koedsri, 60, a retired official, demanded the research completely follow legal procedures.
