Philippines says China Coast Guard ‘sideswiped’ vessel

A state vessel was” sideswiped” by the China Coast Guard, according to the Philippines.

Beijing claimed the affair “in accordance with the law” and that it occurred close to the disputed Scarborough Shoal.

China’s “unlawful use of water guns and dangerous movements” were condemned by the US embassy to the Philippines.

China, the Philippines, and different nations are at the heart of a regional disagreement in the South China Sea. However, in the last year, conflicts between Manila and Beijing have quickly increased.

A Chinese coast guard ship is seen in a videos allegedly showing a Philippine fishery section vessel being blown up by water on Wednesday in Manila.

Separate images, obviously taken from the Philippine fleet, showed its staff shouting” Collision! Collision”! as a result of the Foreign boat’s collision with it.

The film hasn’t been separately verified by the BBC.

The Taiwanese coast guard ship “intentionally sideswiped” the ship, according to the Spanish coast guard, and therefore “launched a subsequent ocean shot attack on the same vessel.”

In a first statement, the Chinese coast guard claimed that Spanish ships” came extremely close” and that the crew’s actions were “in accordance with the law.”

Eventually, it claimed the Philippines had intentionally collided with the Chinese ship and that it had made “bogus accusations in an attempt to persuade worldwide understanding.”

But MaryKay Carlson, US ambassador to the Philippines, said” we condemn these behavior” by China.

In a post on X, she said that “unlawful use of water cannons and dangerous manoeuvres disrupted a Philippine maritime operation … putting lives at risk”.

This is the latest in a string of dangerous encounters in the last year as the two sides seek to enforce their claims on disputed reefs and outcrops in the South China Sea, including the Second Thomas Shoal and the Scarborough Shoal.

The boats typically cause the collisions to occur as they play cat-and-mouse games as they fight the other side away.

The Filipinos also accuse the Chinese of boardboarding their boats, which causes scuffles, as well as of seizing items from their expandable vessels and puncturing them with strong water cannons and lasers, which China has increasingly blasted at Philippine ships.
