South Korea martial law: Singapore’s embassy in Seoul ‘closely monitoring’ situation

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s embassy in Seoul said on Tuesday ( Dec 3 ) that it is” closely monitoring” the situation in South Korea after President Yoon Suk Yeol&nbsp, declared martial law in an unannounced late-night address broadcast live on national television.

The Singapore Embassy in Seoul stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday ( Dec. 3 ) that the martial law announcement “does not seem to be related to any military incursions.”

We ask all Singaporeans in the Republic of Korea to remain calm and keep an eye on the information, it continued.

The consulate does give more information as soon as we can get more information.

Singaporeans in South Korea are advised to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( MFA ) &nbsp online if they haven’t already done so.

Yoon claimed on Tuesday evening that he had no other choice but to use this measure to protect completely and democratic order, claiming that opposition parties have taken the political process hostage and caused the nation to go into a crisis.

He also accused the opposition’s Democratic Party of engaging in anti-state pursuits, and he claimed the government’s leadership had caused paralysis.

Yoon said,” I declare martial law to defend the complimentary Republic of Korea from the risk of North Korean socialist forces, to end the hateful pro-North Korean anti-state causes that are plundering our people’s freedom and happiness, and to defend the free democratic order.”
