TAK — Police have established a roadway station near the border to stop foreigners from being drawn into illegal work in Myanmar.
The station is located on Highway 12 in Mae Sot area, a popular way for immigrants intending to leave Thailand for the adjacent land, Pol Maj Gen Saruti Kwaengsopa, captain of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division, said on Wednesday.  ,
” Data indicate that some immigrants arrive in Thailand, both legally and improperly, to go further into the adjacent country through Mae Sot for work”, said the captain. ” Some are lured into illegal employment”, the captain said.
Foreigners visiting Myanmar often use Highway 12 via both standard channels and natural crossings. Thus, the station is focused on checking foreign guests, particularly those from China, Pol Maj Gen Saruti said.
He warned those who appeared to be pressured into visiting Myanmar for their own protection.
The station will work around the clock for a quarter, he added.
