Over 37,000 people in six Malaysian states hit by flooding

KUALA LUMPUR: According to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday ( Nov 28 ), more than 37, 000 people have been affected by flooding brought on by torrential rain in six Malaysian states this week.

Anwar told parliament that 322 momentary tents had been opened in the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor and Perak to home those displaced by storms.

The northern state of Kelantan, bordering Thailand, has been the worst hit, with 30, 582 citizens from 9, 223 people affected, Anwar said.

During the monsoon season, which lasts from October to March, storms frequently occur along Malaysia’s southeast beach, causing thousands of people to flee annually.
