Brahmachari, of the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatan Jagaran Jote party, was arrested as he travelled from the cash Dhaka to Chittagong, a top leader of the group told AFP.
Proshanto Kumar Haldar, a council member and a member of the organization, told AFP,” We are not aware of the charges brought against him.” The party would hold rallies to demand his release.
” We urge people to join a mortal ring on Tuesday across the country”, he said.
Bangladesh’s Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, which supports spiritual minorities, condemned the imprisonment of Brahmachari.
Before joining the new organization, Brahmachari had previously participated in the more well-known International Society for Krishna Consciousness ( ISKCON), which was more popularly known as the Hare Krishna movement.
Hindus are the largest minority belief in Bangladesh, accounting for around 8 per share of the population.
