Tuition teacher jailed and fined for molesting student during lesson

SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old tuition teacher was on Wednesday ( Nov 20 ) jailed for six weeks and fined S$ 5, 000 ( US$ 3, 700 ) for molesting a student during a lesson in his home.

Yew Yap Hon admitted guilty to two outlandish humility offenses, with a second similar offense being considered for punishment.

The victim, who is 18 years old, began training with Yew a few months before the event, on October 7, 2023, and has a gag order protecting her personality.

The girl was informed by Yew that she should come to his house because hers was too loud and unsanitary.

On the day of the event, Yew had asked the student whether she could be slow or immediately. She claimed she may be later.

Their training started at 7.20pm, with Yew first sitting at a 90-degree tilt to the learner. But near nightfall, he asked if he could remain closer to her. When she agreed, he shifted following to her.

Yew then touched the victim’s hips, making the victim feel molested. She leant toward him and shifted. Willow then tucked his arms into Yew’s neck.

Yew inquired about her actions when the youth inquired as to why she was doing them. She said that she was nervous.

Yew subsequently apologised to the target. But, while he was doing so, he molested her afterwards by rubbing her again. He added that he” may not get it any more,” according to Mandarin.

The scholar behaved as though everything was fine, not daring to challenge Yew in his home. Then she called her brother to pick her up and waited at the condominium’s principal gate.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Yap Jia Jun argued that there might have been some malice because Yew had suggested that he have taken the lessons at his house.
