Phuket’s tourism earnings could reach 500 billion baht this year, as the island attracts more visitors during the off-season by promoting sports tourism, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s ( TAT ) Phuket office.
Invoice Phuket director Lertchai Wangtrakuldee said the region’s tourism really had no “low time” (usually from May to October ) because Phuket has many sport-related actions that lure customers. Additionally, they significantly increase revenue.
” We have events that are sure to draw people in all year long.” We organise several sports events such as riding, golf, cross-country running, route running ethnicities and Thai boxing contests”, said Mr Lertchai.
Between May and October, the strategy saw a 16 % increase in visitor growth compared to the same time last year. The number of travelers is also higher than before the Covid-19 crisis, he said.
The revenue generated from hospitality, however, is also expected to reach 450–500 billion ringgit this year, marking a new great and surpassing its goal of 440 billion ringgit, he said.
As such, the region’s tourism income should be the highest in the country this year by significantly, despite fewer guests than other regions.
Mr. Lertchai claimed that Phuket made 360 billion ringgit from only 9.5 million people, or 30 to 40 billion baht per month, compared to Chon Buri, which had only received 200 billion ringgit from 19 million visitors in January and September.
” The key is Phuket’s revenue from sporting tourism”, he said, adding that Muay Thai was extremely popular among international visitors.
Meanwhile, Kongsak Yodmanee, governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand ( SAT ), hailed the 30th Laguna Phuket Triathlon for its success over the weekend. 1, 000 players from all over the world participated in it, which also generated more native money.
