Local media reported that past Wallabies mentor and former Australian broadcaster Alan Jones has been detained following a search into a number of allegations of sexual abuse.
An 83-year-old man was taken into custody early on Monday night by New South Wales Police police from the Child Abuse Squad, according to New South Wales Police, before conducting a property search.
A strike army was established in March to look into a number of inappropriate assaults and sexually explicit rapes committed between 2001 and 2019.
One of Australia’s most well-known internet images, Mr. Jones, has recently denied abuse allegations, which were first reported by The Sydney Morning Herald in 2023.
A former teacher, Mr Jones coached Australia’s national sports union group between 1984 and 1988, before pivoting to a television career.
Before he retired from his full-time position in 2020 due to health issues, he was a cinch on the local train 2GB for years and a fixture there.
Later on Monday, police are anticipated to release the media.
