International level sought for Suvarnabhumi
In order to use Singapore’s Changi Airport as a model, Airports of Thailand ( AoT ) will push Thai airports to join the top 20 of the world’s best 20 in five years.
The Transport Ministry has instructed AoT to strengthen Suvarnabhumi Airport’s quality and efficiency, according to Permanent Secretary for Transport Chayatan Phromsorn, so it can rise to the top of the world.
Mr. Chayatan and Yam Kum Weng, the CEO of the Changi Airport Group ( CAG ), recently traveled to Changi Airport in Singapore to talk about possible collaboration.
Changi Airport, known for its effectiveness and world-class services, is an enthusiasm for strategies to reform Thailand’s big airports, particularly Suvarnabhumi.
Thailand is already being positioned as a major aircraft hub, according to AoT leader Kerati Kijmanawat. He claimed that AoT wants to place Bangkok, Don Mueang, and Suvarnabhumi among the 20 best terminals in the world in five years, bringing the total power of the two flights to 200 million annually.
The main terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be expanded to the south. The development will take three years, and it is anticipated to increase passenger potential by 15 million each year.
Also, a new terminal, called the South Terminal, may support 70 million more passengers periodically. It will have a “mega connector” idea with a huge commercial area outside. With these improvements, Suvarnabhumi Airport will be able to accommodate 150 million people annually.
Don Mueang Airport, however, is undergoing the next phase of development to help 50 million passengers periodically.
Mr Kerati said some self-check-in shops, automatic bag drop channels and eGates have been installed at the two flights, with plans to add more in the future.
He added that a 200, 000-square-metre area at Suvarnabhumi Airport’s South Terminal may be allocated for a searching store inspired by Jewel Changi Airport.
He stated that labor is anticipated to start the following year and been finished by 2031.
New rest areas within Suvarnabhumi Airport are also in creation, Mr Kerati said.
Next month, some additional waiting areas and co-working locations are anticipated, and by February, new play areas for children will start.
Mr Kerati said AoT has consulted Changi Airport, known for its latest landscaping developments, on these improvements.
The AoT president added that Changi Airport and the company are working on a “green airport” development plan. Both parties want to create sustainable aviation fuel ( SAF ) in accordance with European aviation regulations, which mandate airports start offering SAF in three years.
Additionally, both parties discussed plans to install solar panel inside the airport, with AoT aiming to eliminate its daylight energy costs in three years, according to Mr. Kerati.
