Priest injured in St Joseph’s Church stabbing discharged from hospital, expresses thanks

SINGAPORE: The Catholic priest who was injured in a stabbing at St Joseph’s Church in Upper Bukit Timah has been discharged from hospital, the&nbsp, Archbishop’s Communications Office said on Friday ( Nov 15 ).

As the church’s parish priest, Father Christopher Lee, recovers completely from the attack, he will be on medical leave.

” I am incredibly appreciative of the Catholic community’s unwavering love and support at St. Joseph’s Church and beyond. Your prayers and well-wishes have been a source of strength and ease during my recovery”, said Father Lee, according to the&nbsp, Archbishop’s Communications Office.

His home and the church pleaded for his ongoing treatment and privacy while he recuperated, the office continued.

A person who was using a folding knife at mass on November 9 stabbed Father Lee.

The attack took place during fellowship at the church’s regular children’s large, where children take on duties that adults often conduct, such as singing in the chorus.

A 37-year-old person, &nbsp, Basnayake Keith Spencer, was charged in court on Monday over the affair. The Singaporean was charged with using a dangerous weapon to deliberately cause severe harm.

The stabbing caused a 3 cm cut to Father Lee’s lower lip, a 4 cm cut to his lips, and an 8 cm laceration on his mouth, according to the charge sheet.
