Controlling SILTY Release
PUB has increased the frequency of audits of building sites to make sure steps have been put in place to prevent silty release ahead of the north-east rain season, which runs from December to March, in order to protect Singapore’s waterways.
Water is mixed with uncovered soil and earth at construction sites to cause this release.
If gravel accumulates in empties, it is obstruct rainwater drain, leading to flash floods.
Follow offenders who carry out work that could result in silt being discharged into empties and rivers have also been subject to a doubled fine, reaching S$ 100 000.
China Communications Construction Company-Sinohydro Joint Venture is one of the contractors that has made efforts to prevent such situations.
The company, which treats its silty waters before discharging it into open drainage, has put in place more protection, like a holding pond that filters land sediments.  ,
Additionally, it has set up an automatic system to stop the system from leaking stagnant waters from the job site.
