KHON KAEN- A maid has been given a 235-year prison sentence for stealing dozens of silver ornaments from her company’s store worth about 25 million ringgit.

According to the owner of the golden shop in the Ban Pai area of the northern province, he first expressed suspicion two months ago when he saw a necklace fall from the woman’s apron pocket.

When asked, the suspect, identified as Somjit Khumduang, said the jewellery may have slipped into her bag while she was standing at the show shop.

Eventually, the owner looked through the security camera footage and discovered 47 situations of the lady stealing gold jewelry in 2021. The items stolen were for about 25 million rmb, he said.

The accused allegedly purchased property and other assets with the stolen items, according to authorities. She also posted pictures on her Instagram, showing off a new bike and innovative jewellery.

The woman’s user claimed that he repeatedly told her to gain what she had stolen, but only about 7 million baht was returned.

Ms Somjit had been a lady at the store for roughly 10 years, the landlord said.
