The lowest percentage actually found in a standard survey of young people regarding youth sexuality is one in five high school boys in Japan who claim to have experienced their first kiss.
Since 1974, the Japan Association for Sex Education ( Jase ) has conducted the study every six years.
High school girls are also demure, with over one in four girls saying they have had their first kiss, or 27.5 %, or more. However, compared to the previous survey, kids ‘ collapse was significantly higher.
According to experts, the statistics demonstrate how sexual regulations have affected Japan’s children.
Fewer Asian students are having sexual while more are urinating, the study also showed.
High school guys who claim to have engaged in sexual activity decreased by 3.5 items from 2017 to 12 %. For high school girls, it declined 5.3 positions to 14.8 %.
Despite having fewer relationships with colleagues, the study found that sexuality is increasing among all three groups and is at record high rates among junior high school ladies and high school students in public.
The Tokyo-based Jase polled 12, 562 pupils across junior high schools, large colleges, and universities in 2023 for its research.
According to Yusuke Hayashi, a anthropology teacher at Musashi University, the closure of schools and restrictions on real call during the Covid pandemic had probably had an impact on many of these students, who were “beginning to be engaged in sexuality” as reported in the Mainichi newspaper.
The survey results come as Japan struggles to arrest its falling birth rate and a growing problem of sexlessness. A separate survey earlier this year found that nearly half of marriages in Japan are sexless.
The state has the country’s oldest people, measured by the UN as the proportion of people aged 65 or older.
In late 2023, Japan said that for the first time one in 10 people in the country are aged 80 or older.
In March, diaper-maker Oji Holdings announced it would stop making baby nappies to focus on making adult diapers.
