The Department of Airports has been given the directive from the Transport Ministry to expedite the construction of the new rider switch at Trang Airport, with the goal of having it operational by the end of the year.
In response to a complaint filed by a political party with a presence in the southern county, assistant transport secretary Manaporn Charoensri issued the order on Monday. The organization urged the government to finish the 1.6 billion-baht terminal’s design as it was about to be finished about six months ago. It had been abandoned by its company.
The new customer terminal is a component of a larger project to improve the aircraft, which would also improve the airport and facilities.
The connector is expected to handle 1, 200 passengers per hour, or about 3.4 million people annually. A new car park with a capacity for 1000 cars may be present in addition to two aircraft corridors.
By the end of 2025, Ms. Manaporn said the fresh switch would aid in the growth of the country’s tourism industry.
She also directed the relevant authorities to work together with the Thai Civil Aviation Authority ( CAAT ) to review the airport’s cargo, passenger, and aircraft handling systems, including the possibility of establishing immigration, customs, health, and animal quarantine checkpoints in order to facilitate future international flights.
The carrier’s 2, 100-metre airport may become expanded to 2, 990 feet. It will feature new electrical systems, allowing it to handle 14 mid-sized aircraft ( such as Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s ) at a time.
The airport switch is currently 36 % complete, and it is anticipated to be finished by January 2026.
Ms. Manaporn claimed that the airport will have more space for bigger plane, giving passengers more choices and lower costs.
Danai Raungsorn, DoA director-general, explained that the company’s economic difficulties had caused the delay in finishing structure of the customer switch.
He claimed that on April 22, the DoA sent a observe to the company outlining the terms of the contract breach and penalties.
The company insisted during many conversations with the DoA that it would start working on the page by October 5. Nonetheless, there has been no progress since their last meet, he said.
A DoA commission on October 30 decided to end the agreement, and the table is today looking for new companies to finish the work by the deadline, according to Mr. Danai.
