7 cows killed by lightning in Korat

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Seven cows were killed after being struck simply by lightning during a rainstorm in Bua Yai district of this northeastern province on Weekend, the Hook 31 rescue unit reported.

Associates of the rescue unit rushed to Prohibit Nong Mek community in tambon Serta Chang, Bua Yai district, after learning of the lightning hit which occurred at about 12. 10pm.

Puttha Sa-ut, a villager of Ban Nong Mek, said she brought four cows to graze in a forest near the village, signing up for other cows which belonged to other villagers.

Soon after noon, when the storm came, she herded the cows to gather under a tree. The lady and other villagers had taken shelter under a wood shack nearby.

Suddenly the loud thunderbolt struck, killing seven of the cows, she stated.

Mrs Puttha said the girl was saddened with the incident, saying the death of the girl four cows was a great loss with her family.
