Caterer fined S$1,200 after 107 people at MindChamps preschools fall ill with gastroenteritis

SINGAPORE: A caterer who supplied food to eight MindChamps preschools in May last year has been fined S$ 1, 200 ( US$ 920 ) after more than 100 people fell ill.

Nosh Cuisine was fined for a “food safety lapse,” according to the Singapore Food Agency ( SFA ) on Wednesday ( October 16 ).

Between May 22 and May 29 last year, SFA and the Ministry of Health ( MOH) received reports of gastroenteritis from eight Mindchamps preschools.

A total of 107 people&nbsp, -&nbsp, 96 kids and&nbsp, 11 team members -&nbsp, reported symptoms of gastroenteritis after eating meals prepared by the business.

Eight were hospitalised and have since been discharged, SFA said on Wednesday.

Nosh Cuisine’s grounds were jointly examined by SFA and MOH officers, who discovered that the business had neglected to keep its premises clear.

Three MindChamps institutions in Bishan, Changi Airport, and Tanglin were named in a May 2012 report from government. &nbsp, Following the incident, SFA suspended the food business activities of Nosh Cuisine.

On Jul 27, 2023, government lifted the expulsion, saying the organization &nbsp, had complied with actions.

” All food enterprises should ensure their premises are clear and well maintained, as well as subscribe to appropriate food hygiene and food safety needs”, SFA said on Wednesday.

SFA did not hesitate to take immediate action against anyone found to be violating the Environmental Public Health Act.

If convicted, criminals may be fined up to S$ 2, 000. They are subject to a more fine of up to S$ 100 for each day or portion of a day after being found guilty in the case of a continuing crime, according to the expert.
