Hwang Ui-jo, a football player from South Korea, has apologized for quietly documenting sexual encounters with his companions.
The 31-year-old scorer is accused of filming sexual encounters with two of his companions without their consent on four times between June and September 2022.
In his first court appearance in Seoul on Wednesday, Hwang said he was “deeply guilty” for causing “disappointment”.
The original striker had only last quarter left England’s Nottingham Forest for Turkey’s Alanyaspor.
The video came to light after Hwang’s sister-in-law shared them on social media next June, in an attempt to slander him.
After Hwang sued her, she received a three-year jail sentence for the extortion in September.
However, the charges against him proceeded as lawyers said he filmed the video improperly.
Prosecutors obstructed the release of information to prevent further damage from the people in the movies.
Hwang told the Seoul judge,” I will not do something wrong in the future and will do my best as a football player.”
” I sincerely apologize to the patients who have suffered as a result of my actions, and I am deeply sorry for the sorrow that my actions have caused all those who have supported and cared me,” he continued.
