Adviser pick sparks petition

Another complaint is being filed by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra demanding that she be fired for appointing Nattawut Saikua, a former Pheu Thai community chairman, as an assistant.

Activist Nopparut Worachitwutthikul, a former leader of the Pirabkhao 2006 group, petitioned the Election Commission (EC ) against Ms Paetongtarn yesterday.

Mr. Nopparut accused the prime secretary of breaking the law by appointing Nattawut as her assistant in the complaint.

Nattawut was sentenced to prison for leading a bloody red-shirt rally on July 22, 2007 outside the home of the later Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda, according to the advocate.

Nattawut was required to attend coaching in the throne initiated Kok Nong Na-model farming program for prisoners, which the Corrections Department had planned.

However, the next justice secretary, Somsak Thepsutin, officially signed a letter allowing Nattawut to be excused from the education and eventually released from prison.

Given Mr. Nopparut’s history of committing such a serious violation of the law, Mr. Nopparut yesterday suggested that the EC really examine Ms Paetongtarn’s exercise of power as leading by naming Nattawut as her adviser.

He even criticized Mr. Somsak, who is now minister of public health, for no upholding the integrity requirements imposed by the letter he sent that led to Nattawut’s release from jail.

The advocate added that he was concerned that Nattawut’s position in charge of advising the prime minister could compel her to make poor decisions and set her under unnecessary pressure.

He warned that” She might not be on to Mr. Nattawut,” noting that the director position has influence that may potentially overshadow the primary secretary.

The advocate stated that he intended to use the attorney general and the National Anti-Corruption Commission to report a similar complaint against the leading with the Constitutional Court.

” This is no minor problem”, he said.
