Nijjar– who immigrated to Canada in 1997 and became a member in 2015 – had advocated for a independent Sikh condition, known as Khalistan, carved out of India.
He had been wanted by American officials because of reported violence and crime plots.
In connection with Nijjar’s death, which occurred in a Sikh church parking lot in Vancouver in June 2023, four American citizens have been detained.
Prior to the investigation, New Delhi had previously stated that it had received a political letter from Canada indicating that the Indian High Commissioner and other officials were potential subjects of interest.
It said their minister, Sanjay Kumar Verma, a previous ambassador to Japan and Sudan, was a recognized profession minister and that the charges were “ludicrous”.
The foreign ministry of New Delhi announced that it had instructed Verma to travel home and that it had” no beliefs” in the American government’s commitment to safeguarding the security of the six expelled ambassadors.

India called the claims it had ties to the shooting “preposterous” and” a method of smearing India for democratic gain” on Monday.
The American government recently curbed Canadian permits last year, forced Ottawa to revoke their ambassadors, and threatened to do so on Monday.
” India reserves the right to take additional measures in response to the Trudeau Government’s aid for fanaticism, violence and secession against India”, the foreign government said.
Additionally, the foreign ministry summoned American Ambassador Wheeler, who claimed Ottawa had provided India with the proof it needed.
After leaving the government, Wheeler told writers,” Canada has provided reliable, unquestionable proof of relations between officials of the Government of India and the death of a Canadian resident on American soil.”
” Getting to the bottom of this is in the interests of both our states and the people of our places.”
