Lee Hsien Yang says he will apply for demolition of 38 Oxley Road

Debate OVER 38 OXLEY Street

Since the elder Lee’s passing on March 23, 2015, the family house has been a source of public interest. After her sons moved away, Dr. Lee continued living it.

In June 2017, Mr. Lee Hsien Yang and Dr. Lee took to social media to accuse the then-Prime Minister, Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, of fabricating their parents for political gain and that the elder Lee had demanded that their family house been destroyed.

Mr. Lee Hsien Yang and Dr. Lee claimed that they were threatened when they attempted to fulfill their late father’s wish to destroy the home. Additionally, they charged Mr. Lee Hsien Loong with using his power to influence others to advance his individual goals.

The saga finally made articles in some of the world’s biggest publications, which led to Mr Lee Hsien Loong delivering a ministerial statement in legislature on Jul 3, 2017, to address the claims.

The death of the house would eventually be decided by a governmental committee on the 38 Oxley Road&nbsp, which was led by Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, who was also the minister for Culture, Community, and Youth Grace Fu, Law Minister K Shanmugam, and subsequently Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong.

The commission made three recommendations in its last report on the matter in April 2018: preserving the entire home, preserving only its ancient floor dining room, and allowing its demolition.

Mr. Teo once said,” We reliance especially on the objective evidence presented to us and the key concrete actions that Mr. Lee Kuan Yew himself took in his life to put his wishes into practice,” in order to reach our sights on Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s wants. &nbsp,

” This included the destruction section in Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s next will, his letter to Cabinet from December 27, 2011, as well as the renovation/redevelopment strategies for 38 Oxley Road that he submitted to the URA in March 2012, and got approval for,” he said.

The statement did not offer any advice, only stating that the Dr. Lee was still living there and that” there was no need to make a decision on the house” at the time.

The report states that” the various options are intended to assist a future state in making an informed and unbiased decision whenever necessary.”
