Given the enormous dangers that the economy and society in general face as a result, the Thailand Development Research Institute ( TDRI ) demands that the government implement plans to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Somkiat Tangkitvanich, leader of the TDRI, stated yesterday that the country’s flooding, which is taking place more often and with greater severity, is largely due to the country’s rising average global temperature, which is now considered “global boiling.”
According to Mr. Somkiat, the economy and society are seriously harmed by the devastating landslides. Many nations have accelerated their adaptation to climate change’s threats and reduced their greenhouse gas emissions, a big contributor to global heat rises.
” What is alarming is that the government, personal industry, and Thai individuals still attach relatively little value to climate adaptation. Although the government has some plans, such as liquid administration, to cope with droughts and floods, there are almost no techniques to cope with the effects in different areas”, he said.
He claimed that the key to solving the “global boiling” period is how to react Thailand to weather change and survive, whether it be through improving the facilities of major cities, creating a more precise disaster warning system, developing a financial system and insurance measures, or creating a financial system and insurance measures to help modify and distribute risks from various natural disasters.
In addition to creating a sound plan for adjusting to the era of global warming, we must protect the public, especially the most susceptible and least adaptable parties. We need to make sure that any actions taken to reduce the effects in one area wo n’t have unintended consequences or increase risks in others, according to Mr. Somkiat.
For these reasons, this year’s TDRI Annual Academic Conference, which marks the 40th anniversary of the organisation, TDRI research team did existing policy guidelines and steps to prepare Thailand for transforming into a climate-resilient economy and society under the topic” Adjusting Thailand … to survive in the global warming time” on Oct 30 at Samyan Mitrtown, the TDRI leader revealed.
Cities will be another place that will be impacted by climate change, according to TDRI Vice President Sumet Ongkittikul.
If we are able to adapt to climate change, “living and doing company will become more challenging for people and the business,” he said.
