After the lawyer petitioned the Constitutional Court to stop former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra from” threatening the constitutional monarchy by influencing the coalition-core Pheu Thai Party,” Paiboon Nititawan, secretary-general of the Palang Pracharath Party ( PPRP ), he was given the opportunity to mention Teerayut Suwankesorn.
The ruling Pheu Thai Party is accused in the petition of trying to undermine the country’s democratic system by the King as head of state. This is the same accusation that resulted in the dissolution of the former opposition Movement Forward Party ( MFP ) on August 7.
Mr. Teerayut had succeeded in requesting the MFP to be disbanded. He formally requested on February 1 that the Election Commission (EC ) petition the Constitutional Court to dissolve the MFP over its position on the lese majeste law.
The MFP’s petition for dissolution was filed after the Constitutional Court ruled on January 31 that the MFP’s press for changes to Section 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the der guess law, indicated an intent to destroy the constitutional king.
The MFP was finally disbanded on August 7 and 11 of its administrative members were barred from politics for ten years on the grounds that they had endangered the constitutional king and national security.
In support of a bill that proposed to amend the der guess laws, Mr. Teerayut petitioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission to ask for legal action against previous MFP head Pita Limjaroenrat and 44 MFP members of parliament.
Mr. Teerayut charged them with violating the Jan. 31 decision by abusing their moral code of conduct.
The ruling forbids any additional lese majeste law-related actions besides the customary legal legislative process.
Mr. Teerayut has practiced rules for about 24 years, with the exception of the two months when he was ordained a few years ago, after graduating from Ramkhamhaeng University with a law education.
That was when he met Suwit Thongprasert, a priest better known as Buddha Issara.
Soon after leaving the monkhood, he resumed his legal work and is now known as Buddha Issara’s attorney.
His other clients include previous PPRP MP for Ratchaburi Pareena Kraikupt, whom he represented in some high-profile defamation cases filed against two well-known social protesters, Veera Somkwamkid and Atchariya Ruangrattanapong.
This attorney has a lot of impressive track record of success when it comes to bringing legal action against those who reportedly behave in a way that is considered hostile to the king.
The lawyer’s case involving the three main Progressive Movement members, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, and Pannikar Wanich, was one of the many Area 112 cases that he had brought against them in relation to their statements on Facebook Live in 2020.
