Cars worth B120m seized from accused gold-fraud couple

Investigation extended to artists who promoted Mae Tuck, Pa Bia

Customer security police have impounded pleasure cars for about 120 million in total owned by gold stores Mae Tuck and Pa Bia, who are accused of fraud.

Pol Maj Gen Withaya Sriprasertparp, captain of the Consumer Protection Police Division, said four pleasure cars were seized at facilities in Ram Intra region of Bangkok and at a business in Nong Sua city of Pathum Thani on Tuesday.  

The seizures were related to the case involving Kornkanok “Mae Tuck ” Suwannabut, 37, and her husband Kanpon Rueang-aram, 35, aka Pa Bia.

Consumers have complained to police that the pair had sold them dirty adornments they were led to believe were genuine silver.

Impounded on Tuesday were a Porche 911 Carrera S Coupe, a Lamborghini, a Ford Mustang Ecoboost Fastback and a Ford Caravelle T69 van. Officers also seized two Toyota pickup trucks and five riders. The cars had an estimated full price of 50 million baht.  

Pol Maj Gen Withaya said officers had earlier impounded five different luxury cars owned by the partners. The cars ‘ combined price was about 120 million ringgit.

He said officers then had all the luxury cars the pair had displayed on social media. The pair had likewise shown what appeared to be different luxury cars in their social media posts, but the pictures had just been altered to make the same cars look unique.

Prosecutors had likewise frozen about 24 million ringgit in funds held in the child’s business bank accounts, he said. Title to nine buildings and 16 slabs of land was also being investigated, along with their rights of luxury watches for 28. 7 million ringgit.

Authorities have expanded the analysis to include the actors, artists and digital influencers who promoted the couple’s sales of golden ornamentation.

Mr Kornkanok and Mr Kanpon were arrested on Sept 30 and their confinement period ends on Nov 2. Pol Maj Gen Withaya said officers hoped to cover up their research before next.
